The Birth Story (Part 2)

Its 22nd November 2016.  I woke up at 10am and found that my pants was wet and I had water trickling down my legs.  It was definitely my waterbag this time. I woke abahjaan up and he was surprisingly calm.  We called Dr Heng for advice on what we should do and he told us to go to his clinic.  So we took our time.  I even put on some make up because I told abahjaan that if I were going to give birth, I wanted to look good doing so.

Dr Heng confirmed that it was my waterbag and told me that I would give birth that night.  He gave us an option to either go home first and wait for the pain to kick in or go to the hospital straight.  We decided to go with the second option but not before we filled our tummies.  We headed to Velu's at Eunos Community Centre where I had batura and abahjaan had rice.  We prepared ourselves for a long day ahead.  Abahjaan even ordered coffee masala (like who on earth orders such a drink) and it sucked so bad but he finished it anyway haha.  By about 1PM, we were at Parkway East Hospital.  We were sent to the labour ward.  We were still all smiles, no pain for me yet.

2:30PM
I started feeling contraction pain.  Abahjaan said the reading on that contraction machine were pretty near.  I was confident I would give birth to you by about 6PM so when the nurses offered me gas, I refused.  I thought I could go through labour naturally without any help/pain killers.

6PM
The pain got so unbearable I was crying.  Abahjaan played surah maryam in the background and before that we had read the ratib together.  I cannot remember the pain but I can remember that it was so very painful and describing it would do it injustice.  The nurse checked on me and told me that I was still far from the supposed 10cm dilation.  I cried even more knowing that I have not made much progress.  One of the nurses set up the gas machine and sort of forced me to take it.  She said that by fighting the pain, I was also preventing further dilation.  So took the gas I did and high I was but not for long.  It helped me get high and happy for a while but it did not help with the pain.

9PM
Dr Heng came in to check on me.  (I always magically feel a lot better when I see him.  There's a certain kind of calmness in him that makes me feel comforted every single time).  He said I would only give birth past midnight.  I could not wait any further.  The pain was too much for me and I was getting exhausted from fighting it the whole day, PLUS I really wanted you to be out on 22/11 because it was a nice date! haha.. Dr Heng suggested that I took patadine, another form of pain killer which is injected into my thighs.  I took it and even though it did not help with the pain, it helped with the dilation.

10:42PM
After the 3rd push, you came out like a blob.  People told me usually the head comes out first and then the shoulders but for you, you came out at one go, just like that.  What happened after that, I have very little recollection of because I was just too exhausted.  I remember commenting "eh eh rambut dia curly" the moment they put you on my tummy.  I remember seeing abahjaan azan in your ears and reading some doa to you.  I remember you under that yellow light and abahjaan sitting right in front of you taking a million pics of his new son.

11:30PM
They put you beside me and we were pushed out of the delivery suite.  All of our family members were outside, eager to greet us.  Both your grandparents were there and so were Didi and Ami Muhd.  Chacha was still in HK.  You had to be sent into the nursery so they all quickly carried and passed you around and gushed over how cute you were.  You were very very cute.  You had your eyes wide opened and gosh Hasan, you're so precious.

Umi and abahjaan cannot be more proud of you and we want you to always remember that.  You will always be our no, 1.
